Women Parliamentary Caucus Commemorates International Women’s Day

The Women Parliamentary Caucus of Eswatini (WPC), chaired by Senator Dr. Linda Nxumalo, hosted the first segment of its International Women’s Day commemoration under the theme “Give to Gain – Strengthening Gender Inclusive Leadership.” The event, held at Happy Valley Hotel & Casino, brought together women leaders and strategic partners from across sectors to share insights and foster collaboration on advancing gender equality. Participants included representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), women Chief Executive Officers, entrepreneurs, and other influential stakeholders. Male leaders also attended in support, including the Clerk to Parliament Benedict Xaba and Senator Isaac Magagula, showing the importance of collective commitment to strengthening women’s leadership.

Discussions focused on key issues affecting women’s advancement, including gender-inclusive leadership, succession planning and estate protection, and nationality laws, with participants sharing experiences on positioning women for leadership while building sustainable legacies.

In her remarks, Lindiwe Dlamini, President of the Senate, stressed the need for a balanced approach to empowerment that also nurtures the boy child to value respect, responsibility, and shared leadership. Meanwhile, Nessie Golakai-Gould of the UNDP highlighted the growing threats women face in digital spaces, stressing the need for safer environments and stronger protections against gender-based violence, cyberbullying, and online abuse to enable women’s meaningful participation in leadership.
