The Legal Aid and Legal Practitioners Bill

Senators had a workshop to sensitize them on the Legal Aid and Practitioners Bill. The aim of the Bill is to ensure access to justice for all, especially those who cannot afford legal representation. The Bill will cater for cases, rules and categories of persons that will be eligible for Legal Aid. In addition, people who qualify for Legal Aid will receive a confirmation certificate from the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional Affairs. The Legal Aid officer will then be required to submit annual reports on activities for accountability and transparency.
