His Majesty King Mswati III formally resumed parliamentary business during the State Opening of Parliament, delivering the Speech from the Throne and outlining Government’s policy direction for the year ahead. In his address, His Majesty reflected on the nation’s development trajectory and underscored that Eswatini still has a considerable journey ahead in fulfilling the aspirations of the country’s First World Vision. While acknowledging progress made over the years, His Majesty emphasised that EmaSwati must not rest until the citizens realise significantly improved living standards, expanded economic opportunities and inclusive growth.
He called for renewed commitment, innovation and unity of purpose across all sectors of society. He urged Government to intensify efforts to accelerate economic transformation, strengthen service delivery and ensure that national development strategies translate into tangible benefits for citizens. Addressing the energy sector, His Majesty directed Government to work closely with the Eswatini Electricity Company to find sustainable solutions to the company’s financial difficulties. He stressed the importance of a stable and financially viable electricity utility in supporting economic growth, investment and national development, noting that energy security remains a critical pillar of the country’s progress.
His Majesty also expressed concern regarding the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, highlighting its potential impact on the agricultural sector and the livelihoods of emaSwati.
