Senate Committee Reviews Home Affairs Performance Report and Budget Estimates.

The Senate Portfolio Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs convened to deliberate on the Ministry's Annual Performance Report and Budget Estimates in a session chaired by HRH Sen. Princess Temaswati. The Ministry is led by HRH Hon. Princess Lindiwe Dlamini. Sen. Sicelo Dlamini raised concerns regarding the passport issuance process, specifically questioning why South African immigration authorities do not stamp the last page of passports. He sought clarification on whether discussions had been held with South African counterparts to resolve this matter. Additionally, he highlighted the growing significance of the Buganu Festival, recognizing its role in boosting tourism and contributing to the nation's cultural and economic development. Sen. Loraine Nxumalo expressed gratitude for the gifts presented by the King and Queen before addressing financial matters. She inquired about the measures in place to control over-expenditure within the Central Treasury Account (CTA) and requested insights into the factors determining border gate closing times. She proposed extending operational hours for certain border posts to facilitate smoother cross-border movement and enhance economic accessibility.
