The Ministry of Defence and National Security’s Second Quarter Performance Report came under debate in Parliament, with Members of Parliament commending progress while urging further action to address key national concerns.

Hon. Bhekibandla Vilakati called for increased recruitment of Emaswati into the Defence Force, saying this would not only strengthen national security but also help reduce unemployment in the country. Meanwhile, Hon. Madala Mhlanga raised concern over “Operation Dudula” currently taking place in a neighbouring country, warning that the crackdown on illegal immigrants could negatively impact Emaswati living, studying, or working in South Africa.
Presenting the report, the Minister of Defence and National Security, Hon. Senator Pholile Shakantu, highlighted the Ministry’s achievements in ensuring the safety of Their Majesties and visiting dignitaries, as well as ongoing operations to combat cross-border crime. She noted the successful seizure of illegal goods such as livestock, vehicles, trading items, and drugs. The Minister also reported that Military Health Clinics continue to provide essential medical services to both army personnel and members of the public. The debate was chaired by Hon. Gcina Magagula, Chairperson of the Ministry of Defence and National Security Portfolio Committee.
