Head of Public Sector Governance at the Commonwealth Dr. Roger Koranteng was in the country for a week long retreat for Parliamentarians at the Eswatini Revenue Service Auditorium (Ezulwini). Dr. Koranteng emphasised that Parliamentarians as legislatures must be governed by good principles of governance which include inter alia: transparency, accountability, predictability and participation.

He mentioned that participation recognised that people were at the heart of democratic development adding that what was missing in particular with African countries was patience. He further implored politicians to be people of integrity instead of only being ethical. There is a difference between ethics and integrity with the latter being an external system of rules and laws while integrity was an internal system which guided people’s behaviour he stated.

The retreat was also graced by the His Excellency the Right Honourable Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini (former Senator), Presiding Officers and distinguished speakers from different institutions who touched on other crucial topics.
